Lygon Street
Axent successfully installed 12 variable speed limit signs for VicRoads in popular Lygon St, Carlton.
The project was required due to the a number of residents raising the issue of lack of consistency and confusion of speed limits for a number of roads within Moreland City Council, specifically Lygon St.

The signs display a 40km speed limit during shopping hours and a 60km speed limit at all other times helping to keep the busy shopping and dining district safer for all.
The main benefits of using these electronic variable speed limit signs, rather static signs are:
• Remove the ambiguity that are identified with the static signs
• The LED signs stand out much more at night and during inclement weather
• Both pedestrians and motorists notice the electronic version more because they are constantly changing
The system is controlled via a PDA which plugs into the back of the sign.
From the PDA interface, the operator can:
• Update the timetable of the sign
• Check the diagnostics of the sign
• Change the mode of the sign (active speed, inactive speed, off)
• Check the display log
This system, as with all of our shopping centre ESLS systems has proved successful by the drop in pedestrian injuries and fatalities as well as a more consistent traffic flow.
