School Zones VSLS System
In 2003, the Victorian Government introduced a law that saw all motorists slow down around schools, especially during drop off (8:00 – 9:30am) and pickup (2:30 – 4:00pm) times and only on school days.
To compliment the law, Axent Global developed there Variable Message Speed Limit signs. The signs automatically turned on during school times and took out the ambiguity of the static versions. There are now currently 800 signs throughout Victoria, covering over 500 schools. This figure is expected to double within the next 12 months.

The entire school zone system consists of:
• Web interface - The interface is used by the client to check the operation of the signs, diagnose
any faults, check the current speed, update the timetable for each individual sign and report on
all system statistics. Interface available at www.axentgprs.com.au
• Service Application - The service interfaces between the web site and the actual display. The
service communicates with each sign throughout Victoria, through a wireless communication
protocol Electronic Speed Limit (ESL) Display. The display listens for communications from the
service application and outputs the correct speed on the sign.
The system is extremely successful running without major fault for over 4 years. For more information on our School Zone VSLS system, please email our sales department.
