Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS)
Axent has successfully installed 3 solar powered VAS signs for VicRoads. Vehicle activated signs (VAS), are road side digital signs that display a message when they are approached by a driver exceeding the speed limit or going too fast for the type of road, especially when there is a hazard, e.g. a bend or a crossroads.
VAS are normally used to reduce a driver's speed by displaying a message 'Too Fast - Slow Down' together with the speed limit. They can also warn drivers of a safety camera if they are exceeding the speed limit.

In this instance Axent installed three ‘Vehicle Activated Signs' along the Black Spur.
The signs are situated at:
• Meeniyan Rd in Koonwarra
• Maroondah Hwy in Yarra Ranges
• South Gippsland Hwy near Minns Rd in Gippsland
Each sign is slightly different suiting the requirements of the specific road requirements and concerns. For example the Koonwarra site displays' message is made up of a road bend advisory symbol as well as the vehicles current speed with a visual message relating to the speed. To further warn the driver, the displays are fitted with wig wags which alternately flash when the display is activated.
