VMS - Great Ocean Road
The VMS system has been designed to inform motorists of road and traffic conditions along with general driver information on the Great Ocean Road between Lorne and Geelong. Where roads or arterials have been closed or have been subjected to traffic incidents the system can alert the motorist and provide information such as detours, speeds, travel time information or general traffic management information.

The VMS system is a real time system that allows users to display messages on the VMS based on information received from data stations. The data stations installed at Anglesea are fitted with loop detectors which detect vehicle congestion in the nominated areas. Data from these stations are sent via a radio modem and then to the VicRoads MMS system at Kew. From here users can send messages, based on data received from the data stations, to the VMS.
There are 4 x ID stations installed one being the master and the remaining three being slave stations. The master station has a direct link to VicRoads MMS system via a DDS line. The remaining three slave stations are each linked to the master station via a radio modem.
